This artwork was created especially to raise awareness and funds for the British Heart Foundation. All of the publisher's profits go to the Mending Broken Hearts Appeal.
With Calypso Brendan Neiland wanted to create an artwork that was as ‘bright, bold and as joyful as possible’. He continues his exploration of night time in the city and is inspired by the neon lights of cities like Las Vegas. He fuses this interest with the concept of ‘mending a broken heart’ by depicting the heart as part of an urban light display. The heart is encased by neon light strips and sits like an olive in a martini glass; tipping a witty, light-hearted wink at the adage that a glass of red wine a day is good for the heart. The composition also reminds us of a heart safely protected by its ribcage, glowing with health.
