Peter Clayton is a Leicester based painter and printmaker.  Born in 1959, he was brought up in rural Lancashire.  He studied Fine Art at Preston Polytechnic and moved to Leicester in the 1980's. Peter has exhibited at many galleries throughout the UK and completed a number of residencies and commissions – including a series of 30 mixed media paintings for P&O Cruise Liner ‘Arcadia’ and a book cover for Faber & Faber.  He teaches part-time at the University of Leicester’s Embrace Arts Centre, the Fosse Arts Centre and at a number of colleges and art centres here in Leicester.  He is a member of Leicester Print Workshop and The Leicester Society of Artists.

Peter takes inspiration for his work from his travels around Norfolk and Cumbria and his passion for the garden and nature.  Recently he has created a series of ‘portraits’ based on his family history.

In the gallery we have a selection of Peter's prints.  He uses a variety of techniques in his work but the prints are essentially lino cuts.   A traditional printmaking technique in which the lino is cut away by hand so that the image alone appears raised on the surface.  The raised area forms the printing surface which is inked using a roller - the areas that have been cut away do not pick up ink - and the print is made using a press.

It may be possible to purchase the prints shown here as unframed/mounted prints, however, the edition sizes are very small so please call us on 0116 2530313 to check availability and price.
