The Paris Suite
by Sir Peter Blake
Blake continues his tour of the great cities of the world bringing his unique vision to the City of Light. An antique souvenir postcard set of the city of Paris inspired Sir Peter to create these complex and humorous scenes.
Each composition is packed full of characters and objects found in his personal collection of printed materials and include classic Blake motifs: the circus; magic; crowds; dancing and butterflies. Collage has been a medium that has fascinated Blake since his first experiments at the Royal Academy of Art in 1955. The careful balance and soft application of colour throughout the series render the works reminiscent of old fashioned aquatints. They could almost be illustrations from a story book from yesteryear.
There are twenty artworks in the set: 10 Man Upright, Aquarium, Butterflies I, Butterflies II, Charabanc Outing, Chicken Art, Circus I, Circus II, Confucius, Dancing, Elephants, Girl, Lowering Elephants, Men with their Pets, Monkeys, The Day the Apes Escaped, The Day the Seine Froze Over, The Kiss, Women with their Pets and Working Elephants.
Each artwork is a signed limited edition silk screen print on paper with glazes. Subject to availability the prints may be purchased individually or as a set. The portfolio set is beautifully presented in a museum quality bound box.
